The Amber Rooms
The Amber Rooms was a group exhibition with contributors responding through their practice to the world-famous chamber, The Amber Room located in the Catherine Palace of Tsarskoye Selo near SaintPetersburg. Once considered the 8th wonder of the world, it was dismantled and eventually disappeared during WW11. Responding to the original Amber Room I was taken aback by the opulence, beauty and glow of the warm golden tones emanating from its walls. My works sort to capture these elements through a series of intricate pattern designs and small sculptural works made of amber resin. These small animal head resin sculptures were set as walking stick handles attached with old brass fittings to highly polished bamboo shafts.
